(WJAR) — No matter how long you have until the deadline, we are all in tax season.

Some Rhode Islanders are eligible to have their taxes prepared and filed for free.

On Friday the United Way in Rhode Island kicked off this year’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA program is available at 24 program sites where IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and file federal and state income tax returns for eligible Rhode Islanders for no cost.

To be eligible for VITA, one must have a household income of $63,398 or less.
