Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Few customer complaints

  • MinuteClinic benefits and CVS discounts

  • Free primary care and mental health visits with some plans

Cons

  • No PPO plans in Florida

Overview

Aetna has the best customer complaint record among health insurance marketplace providers in Florida, showing that it received relatively few complaints for a company of its size over three years. However, its customer satisfaction rating in a J.D. Power survey is slightly below average for Florida.

Aetna’s average premiums for Silver plans are higher than those of some competitors, but low deductibles and perks make up for it. Many plans offer $0 copays for primary care, virtual visits, and walk-in visits. Some include free outpatient mental health care and $3 copays for generic medications.

Note

ACA plans are classified by metal tiers that indicate the average percentage of health care expenses that will be paid by you and the plan. Silver plans pay the second-least for your bills, and therefore, have the second-lowest premiums. (Bronze plans are even more affordable, while Gold and Platinum pick up more of your out-of-pocket costs so they have higher costs.)

Aetna plans also give you extras like a $25 credit every three months for CVS Health brand over-the-counter wellness products. Aetna has several medical management programs tailored to conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. However, since Aetna only offers health maintenance organization (HMO) plans in Florida, (no PPO or EPO plans), you need to stick with in-network providers.

Aetna was founded in 1853 and is based in Hartford, Connecticut.

Most Affordable : Ambetter

Ambetter

Pros & Cons

Ambetter also provides cost-saving perks, like a 20% discount on Walgreens-brand health products and a rewards program that offers up to $500 or more per year if you complete a series of activities like exercise and wellness exams.

However, Ambetter receives many more complaints than expected for a company its size, which raises questions about its customer service.
