President Joe Biden oversaw a few final rounds of student loan forgiveness in his last few days in office.

The Biden Administration rolled out several new rounds of forgiveness this week ahead of the end of his term. Certain borrowers in income-driven repayment plans, the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, those with total and permanent disabilities, and borrowers whose schools engaged in misconduct had their loans forgiven.

But how do you know if you were one of the borrowers affected?

If You Received Forgiveness, You Will Hear From Your Loan Servicer or the Department of Education

Department of Education officials told Investopedia that borrowers typically hear from their federal student loan servicer if they receive loan forgiveness or discharges.

In some cases, the department will contact borrowers directly through email in addition to a notification from their loan servicer, such as if the borrower received forgiveness through PSLF or borrower defense group relief.

Borrowers can also log into their account at StudentAid.gov to see if their loan balance has dropped.
