Visa/Mastercard ATM update: The deadline for $197.5M settlement is here. – NJ.com

Don’t miss the deadline to sign up for a $197.5 million class action settlement for people who took out money from an ATM that used a Visa or Mastercard network in the past 17 years.

The last time to sign up to get money back is Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025.

The settlement stems from a lawsuit that accused Visa and Mastercard of charging unlawful surcharges on transactions at certain bank-operated ATMs. It covered a timeframe between Oct. 1, 2007 and July 26, 2024 and could affect some 175 million people, the settlement website said.

JP Morgan, Wells Fargo and Bank of America were among the banks involved, the Visa/Mastercard settlement website said. Those banks agreed to a previous settlement worth $67 million.

There was no admission of wrongdoing by the companies as part of the settlement agreements. Visa and Mastercard did not respond to requests for comment about the settlement.

If you filed a claim or received a payment from a previous settlement, you are automatically eligible to get money from the new settlement, the settlement website said. It said if you believe you paid additional surcharges since filing your last claim, you must file an updated claim. New claimants can file their first claim on the settlement website at atmclassaction.com.

It’s unclear how much each affected customer could receive. The settlement website said it will depend on the number of approved claims, court fees and attorneys costs, which may not exceed 33% of the total settlement amount.

You can call (877) 311-3724 or email info@ATMClassAction.com to get additional information from the settlement administrator.
