Elon Musk’s X more than doubled the prices of its premium plans after his AI company, xAI, launched Grok 3 yesterday. The latest version of the AI model is available only to Premium+ subscribers.
Elon Musk’s social media company X doubled its Premium+ prices after the release of the latest version of xAI’s AI (artificial intelligence) chatbot Grok 3. The early access to the foundational model will be available only to X’s Premium+ subscribers in the U.S. starting Tuesday. The Premium+ plan now costs $50 per month and $350 for annual subscription. This is more than double the $22 per month fee that subscribers paid earlier.

It is important to note that the plan’s pricing is not consistent on X’s different pages. For instance, X’s support page shows a monthly price of $50, while the sign-up page shows $48.40 per month, and the final check-out page shows $40 per month. This is X’s second price hike in two months, with the Premium+ plan’s price raised to $22 per month from $16 in December 2024.
xAI Claims Grok 3 Is Better than Rival Bots
Musk’s AI startup xAI launched Grok 3 yesterday, claiming to have “more than 10 times” of computing power compared to the earlier version. Grok 3 is also said to be better than rival OpenAI’s GPT-4o model as well as Alphabet (GOOGL) Google’s Gemini and Chinese AI startup DeepSeek’s V3 model.
Interestingly, xAI has placed some of Grok 3’s advanced features, such as “deep search” and “reasoning,” behind a separate SuperGrok plan, which is available only through the Grok app. Grok 3 is available in two reasoning models, namely “Think” and “Big Brain.” The former showcases Grok 3’s superior reasoning abilities, while “Big Brain” is able to solve complex tasks easily with high computational power. Moreover, xAI also launched an AI agent, Deep Search, hailed as the “next generation search engine.”
Musk calls the Grok 3 model a “maximally truth-seeking AI.” While announcing the launch of the model during the weekend, Musk also called Grok 3 the “Smartest AI on Earth.”

While billionaire investor Musk juggles time and efforts between his many companies and political activities, Wall Street remains cautious on his EV (electric vehicle) venture Tesla’s stock.
