Be aware that not everything is good, as the IRS charges additional fees for the use of credit cards. Likewise, if you do not make the full payment before the deadline, you are likely to incur high interest charges
How much tax do I have to pay if I pay with my credit card?
There are two external services authorized by the IRS to manage credit or debit card payments. Both operators apply different transaction fees:
Pay1040.com:
- Credit card usage fee: 1.75% (minimum 2.50)
- Cost per personal debit card: $2.15
- Commercial card (debit/credit) fee: 2.89% (minimum $2.50)
- Accepted cards: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, among others
ACI Payments, Inc.
- Credit card charge: minimum $2.50
- Personal debit fee: $2.10
- Cost for corporate cards (debit or credit): 2.95%
- Accepted cards: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and more
Does it not apply in digital format?
- Payments can be made online or by telephone (see processor details below if you choose to pay by phone)
- It is possible to use digital wallets such as PayPal or Click to Pay to complete the transaction
- There is a limited number of card payments allowed, depending on the type of tax and the nature of the payment
- Federal payroll taxes cannot be paid by card; review the options available for this type of obligation
- Card payments equal to or greater than $100,000 may require additional steps or special conditions.
