Russian President Vladimir Putin “believes key war goals have already been met,” Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a source familiar with Kremlin thinking. These goals reportedly include securing a land corridor connecting Russia to Crimea and weakening Ukraine’s military capabilities.
The agency also wrote that Putin is “increasingly concerned about distortions in Russia’s wartime economy,” citing five knowledgable sources.
During a December 16 meeting with business leaders, Putin reportedly became frustrated and scolded economic officials. One source said they were told at a briefing following the meeting that Putin was “visibly displeased” after learning that high credit costs had led to cuts in private investment, according to Reuters.
