Inflation Reduction Act adds 15 drugs to ease Medicare Part D’s financial burden

Las Vegas (KSNV) — U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen announced that 15 additional medications have been selected for Medicare drug pricing negotiations, aiming to reduce costs for seniors on Medicare Part D.

This development is part of the Inflation Reduction Act, which Senator Rosen helped pass, granting Medicare the authority to negotiate prescription drug prices directly with pharmaceutical companies.

These 15 new drugs join 10 others that have already been negotiated under this authority, with the reduced prices set to take effect in 2026.

“Nevadans are being squeezed by rising costs, and I’ve been fighting to lower them, including prescription drug prices,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to announce that thanks to legislation I helped pass, 15 additional medications will qualify for Medicare price negotiations, which will help lower their prices and provide relief for our seniors.”

Senator Rosen has been at the forefront of efforts to reduce prescription drug costs.

The Inflation Reduction Act, which she supported, has also helped lower healthcare premiums and cap insulin costs for those on Medicare Part D at $35 per month per prescription.

Last year, she joined an amicus brief supporting the federal law and introduced bipartisan legislation to reduce out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for seniors.

Additionally, Senator Rosen announced last year that Nevada seniors would have their annual out-of-pocket costs for brand-name prescription drugs effectively capped at $3,300 a year due to the legislation she helped pass.
